Access: The route that we have used the most is to Park at the Porth yr Ogof Caves at Ystradfellte. (Go through Penderyn, which is on the A4059 a couple of miles north of Hirwaun. Take the first turning on the left a narrow single tracked high walled country road and take the first left. The car park just before the bridge is the one you want not the one at the top of the hill. It is well used and has an attendant which adds greatly to security. Cross over the road and head south along the banks of the Afon Mellte passing, Sced Clungwyn / Sqwd Clun-gwyn (Waterfall) before arriving at Scwd Isaf / Scwd Isaf Clun-gwyn (Waterfall)

Comment: This is part of the waterfall walk and is worth a look even in summer. There is a narrow path to the right of the picture which is wide enough to easily walk on. It is shut now for most of the time. We have walked this several times once when it was in full flood. I have had two people become uneasy on this path, as wide as it is, due to the movement of the water underneath. There is a bit of a scrabble to get down to where the picture is taken. There is a broader gentle, longer, route which can be taken. Having done this a lot of times I am happy with this path and am usually under pressure of time when I visit.
